چکیده

Gradient based motion estimation techniques (GM) are considered to be in the heart of state-of-the-art registration algorithms, being able to account for both pixel and subpixel registration and to handle various motion models (translation, rotation, affine, projective). These methods estimate the motion between two images using a first order Taylor expansion of the registered images. This paper offers two main contributions: First, we improve the convergence rate and range of the GM using a formulation based on a second order Taylor expansion. Second, we extend the second order algorithm using a symmetrical formulation which further improves the convergence properties. The results are verified by theoretical analysis and experimental trials.

An Unbiased Second-Order Prior for High-Accuracy Motion Estimation

Virtually all variational methods for motion estimation regularize the gradient of the flow field, which introduces a bias towards piecewise constant motions in weakly textured areas. We propose a novel regularization approach, based on decorrelated second-order derivatives, that does not suffer from this shortcoming. We then derive an efficient numerical scheme to solve the new model using pro...

A Quantitative Comparison of Two New Motion Estimation Algorithms

This paper proposes a comparison of two motion estimation algorithms for crowd scene analysis in video sequences. The first method uses the local gradient supported by neighbouring topology constraints. The second method makes use of descriptors extracted from points lying at the maximum curvature along Canny edges. Performance is evaluated using real-world video sequences, providing the reader...

Model Parameters Estimation for Image Motion Compensation

Fast and optimal motion estimation method is proposed for electronic image stabilization. First, an approach for macro-block judgment is presented. Before motion vectors calculation, gradient information is analyzed, only useful reference blocks that are indispensable for accurate motion estimation are selected, by which the number of macro-blocks for subsequent calculation is reduced. Second, ...
